Garden Soil Mix

Two of the most important factors that can affect your garden's health are soil quality and weeds. Although the quality of soil in your garden may be high when you start out, it will deteriorate and will continue to deteriorate as time passes.

Maintaining the quality of your garden soil mix is one of the things you have to be on top of if you want a thriving garden.

Weeds on the other hand are things you don't want to maintain in your garden. If you do not weed your garden whenever they appear, the weeds will eventually choke your garden in less than a month's time.

Garden Mulch - Garden mulching is simply a term used to describe the process of spreading organic material throughout the garden. These materials can be composed of dead leaves, animal matter and even some materials which are inorganic.

What happens is that these materials will eventually decompose. During decomposition, nutrients are released into the soil which, in turn, will be passed on to your garden plants. Properly mulched gardens also improve the water retention capacities of your garden soil. The more moisture there is in the soil, the faster the decomposition of organic compounds.

Water retention is even more important in regions of the world where evaporation takes place at a faster rate. Mulching immediately solves the problem of dry soil. In addition, mulch gives your plants more nutrients.

Aside from this, garden mulch has an added benefit of serving as a weed exterminator. According to research, mulch contains several chemicals that stops the seeds of weeds from growing. The same can be said for weed seedlings; the little weeds will stop growing and die. Garden mulch will also cause big weeds to die. If you apply mulch to your garden on a regular basis, you might be able to stop pulling the weeds out of your garden.

Commonly, garden mulch is composed of leaves or compost. These are the organic components of mulch. For those who prefer inorganic components in their mulch, plastic and rubber pieces serve well in water retention.

It is very easy to get a hold of garden mulch. Gardening is a widespread hobby which means that there are plenty of gardening stores to get your mulch from. You can also have a small compost pit where you can bury all sorts of biodegradable material to produce your own garden mulch.
